Though I'm usually about a year behind always on obtaining the large worthy sets, i am looking forward to building that Ol' Fishing Store and Assembly Square sometime 2018. FYI the Taj Mahal was extensively reviewed over at Brickset in December (https://brickset.com/article/32353/review-10256-taj-mahal).

My recollection is that the Death Star and Winter Toy Shop re-releases were panned because they were so similar to the originals; I still cringe when I think back to that awkward Winter Toy Shop designer video....drdavewatfordhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17046583913458496903noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-795049240604897581.post-71948487691328099212018-01-02T05:43:52.600+00:002018-01-02T05:43:52.600+00:00Honestly, I think the most disappointing set is 42...Honestly, I think the most disappointing set is 42070 which was the 6x6 crane truck while the theme was the most disappointing of the year. While there doesn't have to be a somewhat throwback to 20-25 years ago, the 2nd half sets seem somewhat underwhelming.

Say what you want about the Taj Mahal, but I think it deserves a proper review either here or at Brickset. According to other reviewers, the set now includes numbered bags and it is more welcome because of the high price point of the original. The reason why LEGO gets so much flack for other set re-releases such as Death Star and Winter Toy Show is because they were available for a long time in the original form or have a much lower price point than the original Taj Mahal or Cafe Corner. As a result, most of us were willing to buy a new 10199 at a $200 US markup while Cafe Corner is available for new at $2,000 US.Jessy S.noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-795049240604897581.post-71547043921023344122018-01-01T13:17:22.504+00:002018-01-01T13:17:22.504+00:00There was a brief mention of TLBM, specifically th...There was a brief mention of TLBM, specifically that I was concerned that the Ninjago Movie sets might turn out to be as average as the TLBM sets but thankfully they weren't. One thing it does is highlight sets that I may have missed and shine a different light on others. I have to agree the Saturn V rocket was the highlight for me along with the Old Fishing Store. It’s been a very tough year to choose. Similar to the good Doctor BB-8 was the first Star Wars set I had purchased in many years possibly since the USC R2-D2 and I was thrilled that BB-8 appeared to be in with R2.

However the best set in 2017 for me was the Ideas Saturn V rocket set. It’s perfect to me in every way, taps into my love of the history of space exploration and looks great again the Space Shuttle set. The build was very satisfying and the 1969 piece count was inspired and helps to remind me what makes LEGO so special. In the 40 years I've been building Lego, I've never encountered a set with such an imaginative use of bricks and amazing (and huge) final size. This one is hands-down a winner.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05578487463857293740noreply@blogger.com
